We had an opportunity to catch up with Mykell on 202. If you missed his interview, you can view it on the site. The series is coming to a close, and he shared his thoughts with us, including a behind-the-scenes peek of the series.
Which one is your favorite episode of the series is your favorite and why?
My favorite episode would have to be a tie between 5 and 6. I loved episode 5 because it hit every note I wanted it when I wrote it, from the actors performance to the music from talented artists Luke James and Tebby Burrows. Episode 6 featured a great guest star, Daffany McGaray Clark from FreeForm’s The Fosters and she gives an amazing performance. In both episodes, our lead actors (Malynda Hale, Tia Robinson, Lyonel Reneau, and Harry Holmes) all have incredibly balanced moments of humor and dramatics.
Any plans for another season?
One of our actors, Lyonel Reneau, who plays Dwight, has been given an amazing acting opportunity which will take him out of town for the summer. We will return for season 2 in the fall and it is going to be amazing. Stay tuned.
Awesome! Final thoughts on the series?
I am extremely proud of what myself and the cast and crew have accomplished. To go from an idea in my head to a complete season that people have thoroughly enjoyed blows my mind. When I think about what we created, with a minimal budget and a skeleton crew, I am simply humbled. When I started this project, I wanted it to be something that would showcase the talent of the actors, directors, and artists I have the honor of calling friends. I think we did just that.
Do you have a special message to the fans, cast, and crew?
From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU for going on this journey with me. This absolutely would not have happened without any of you. Thank you to Justin Patten, the director/editor , for helping me bring this vision to life and for being amazing at what you do. Thank you to Malynda Hale, Producer/Nya, for pushing me to be great and for wanting this to be the best it could be. Thank you to our actors Tia, Lyonel, and Harry for being available and willing to put in amazing work. Your dedication to your craft and this series humbles me. Thank you to the guest stars we have had Amy Argyle, Daffany McGaray Clark, Euriamis Losada, and Candler Rogers for coming in and taking our “little” show to the next level. Finally thank you to everyone who has watched, subscribed, commented, and shared our content. YOU ARE THE REAL MVPS.
