According to www.releases.com, “A Mermaid’s Tale” is an enchanting modern fairy tale, the story of Ryan, a 12 year old girl forced to move with Matt, her father, to the dying fishing town where he was born, and to live with Art, her crusty mean old grandfather. As she tries to fit in and make new friends she discovers a secret cove, home to a playful pod of dolphins and Coral, a mysterious girl. As they become fast friends, Ryan learns that Coral is a mermaid and uncovers a secret that will help the girls both save the town in a touching, mythic story of friendship and redemption.”

A Mermaid's Tale PosterHi, Caitlin! Congrats on your role in the Lionsgate A Mermaid’s Tale. We know you can’t share details about the film. Tell us about your character.

A Mermaid’s Tale is a family movie about Ryan Love, a 13-year old girl relocating to her grandfather’s fishing town and discovering a magical secret and a new friend.   I was so lucky to get to play Ryan.  Playing her was super easy for me since the director, Dustin Rikert, allowed me to put so much of myself into the character.  I think people will enjoy seeing Ryan and her new friend, Coral’s, friendship evolve, just as Sydney Scotia’s and mine did on set.  You can check it out on DVD on May 16th.

Your film, Wheelman, is releasing on Netflix this summer. Tell us about the film and your role.

I just saw a screening with the cast and crew this week, and it is FABULOUS!!!!  Wheelman is a high-impact, action thriller centered on Frank Grillo, who plays Wheelman and his struggle to do whatever it takes to protect his family.  I play Wheelman’s daughter, Katie.  This role was unique and special to me, because I got to play such a strong female heroine.  I even got to learn to drive a 1982 Porsche 911 stick-shift for the movie!!!

You also appear in Dan Fogelman’s feature film Life Itself. Tell us about your character.

Dan Fogelman knows how to tell a story.  And, Life Itself, is another beautiful piece of his work.  I play young Abby (aka young Olivia Wilde).  The story spans several generations.  It’ll definitely be a must-see for everyone.  It has it all:  romance, love, loss, tragedy, and hope. I am so lucky to be part of such a talented cast.

You have starred in some high-profile films. Is there a particular role you would like to play one day?

I would love to play the lead in an action movie.  My favorite roles are the ones where I get to do my own stunts.

Let’s talk about your career. What has been your favorite experience working in the industry?

My three favorite things about acting are the places I get to travel, the people I get to meet on set, and the characters I get to become. Throughout my career, I have filmed in places such as Nova Scotia, Canada; Seoul, South Korea; Budapest, Hungary; and all throughout the United States.  Wheelman was filmed in Boston, and it was my mom’s and my first time traveling to New England.  We completed an entire New England travel guide!  I love to travel.  I love to immerse myself into different cultures, learn new languages, and try new foods.  I have been truly blessed with these opportunities.  I’ve gotten to film alongside gifted actors, such as Pierce Brosnan, Jack Black, Danny Devito, Betty White, Bella Thorne, Zendaya, Troian Bellasario, Milo Ventimiglia, Chad Michael Murray, and many others.  I made friendships with these people and can call most of them family.  As for the characters I’ve portrayed, each character has been a different, yet, wonderful, challenge.  I loved being a blue zombie for Z Nation!!!

Tell us about how you get into character for your film roles.

When I audition for a role, I read the script.  All of it.  It helps me understand my character’s background and the character’s development. Then, I always try to find a piece of myself or something I can relate to in each role.  Sometimes I get really lucky and can just be myself.

Do you have a director you would like to work with?

There are so many directors I admire and would love to work for. There’s no way I could name just one!

Where do you see your career in the next five years?

Hopefully, busy! I just hope I have the same passion for acting that I do now and that I’m having fun in whatever project I’m filming. Thinking about my life in 5-years is crazy. I will have graduated high school and will most likely be on my college journey at that time.

Thus far, what has been your motivation to be an actress?

I started acting when I was three years old. Of course, at that age, I didn’t have a desire to be an actress or motivation to keep me going. My career has evolved over the past 10 years. My current motivation for acting is hearing the word “yes.” In the entertainment industry, I hear a lot of “no’s.” Working hard at learning my lines, studying my character, and putting forth the effort to do a great job in my auditions makes hearing “YES!” feel fantastic. It’s one of the best feelings in the world to me. Although I would like to always be working and booking roles, I think hearing “no” really keeps me humble and makes me truly grateful for every “yes.”

What do you like to do in your spare time?

A big part of my life is giving back. Whether it’s feeding the homeless through my church, or setting up an Alex’s Lemonade Stand, I believe I can make a difference. When I’m not working, I love to play hard. My favorite things to do are surf, play soccer, kickbox, play tennis, paint, read, write stories (or scripts!), snow ski, and free dive. I also have a five-pound Maltese named Tallulah who loves to travel and go on set with me.

Do you have any upcoming projects that we haven’t mentioned?

I am auditioning for so many cool projects right now. I hope I can tell you about some of them soon. Fingers crossed!

Complete this sentence, if I had an opportunity to do anything I want, I would go glamp-ing through Europe!

. . . as opposed to backpacking, since I just now realized backpacking means all belongings go into the ONE backpack… I would pack way too many shoes… LOL!
