Brice Fisher is a creative young teen actor performing roles within the comedy to drama genres in film and television. He’s in the movie “Kidnap” (as Tyler), starring Halle Berry and “The Tribes of Palos Verdes” (as Danny), starring Jennifer Garner. Recently Brice was on the TNT drama show “The Librarians” playing a young Sean Astin in the role of Young Kirby.
Previously Brice played a bully giving Brick a hard time in “The Middle” (season 7 “Cutting the Cord”). He appeared on the new NBC sitcom “Crowded” (as Joey). He took on a bully role in the holiday feature film “Christmas Trade” (as Francis) starring William Baldwin and Denise Richards. Brice also co-starred on two CBS series “Friends with Better Lives”, “Criminal Minds” (as Bobby) in the Season 9 pt. 1 finale, “Farmed and Dangerous” (as Jared) on Hulu, “The Goldbergs” (as Dante) on ABC, “Haunted Hathaways” (as Eddie) in the Haunted Toy Store episode. And he was also involved with two skits on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. One was with Josh Duhamel and the other for a new Hollywood hotel.
In addition to acting in television shows and movies, Brice co-hosts a web series talk show called “Between 2 Phat Kids”. Along with his co-host Wyatt McClure, the 5 minute long shows cover interviews of celebrities and social media stars and includes fun skits, shenanigans, and mayhem.
Brice is from Yakima, WA and now resides in Hollywood, CA. Interesting fact; he is a Native American (Siletz Tribe).
You’re at the beginning of your career as an actor. How has the journey been, thus far?
I think interesting is the best word to describe it. You never know what to expect and there is no way to know what will happen. When I started I was just turning 11 and now I am turning 16. I have been extremely lucky to land the parts I have landed. Of course, I would love to get a strong recurring part or a strong supporting role, but I am happy with where I am and what I have been able to do so far. I am just hoping that I have made positive impressions on people that I have worked with so far. I wanted to be an actor because I really love the process. When I am on set and working with a team it is the best feeling in the world. If I could do that every day, I would be the luckiest kid in the world.
You played a young Sean Astin in the role of Kirby on TNT’s hit drama The Librarians. What was it like starring alongside the Lord of the Rings star?
Funny story, this booking was kind of a whirlwind. I booked this from a taped audition and didn’t get the call sheet until the day of the shoot and we were in Portland. My mom got the call sheet and she was like, you will never believe who you are playing the young version of!! We love the Goonies, Rudy and of course Lord of the Rings….this was one for the bucket list for sure. We were filming our scenes at different times, but I did get to meet him and get a picture with him. Sean Astin is amazing and I would love to have a career like him. I think that this scene that I did playing “Young Kirby”, was one of my best.
You played a bully in The Middle (season 7 “Cutting the Cord”). Was that a challenging role to play, since bullying is a hot topic?
I got to play a bully in two episodes of The Middle. It is always fun to play something you aren’t. It was really funny when we had to rough a kid up at the lockers and pretend to slam him into it. The other bully, Nick, and I were so concerned with the kid we were bullying getting hurt that we were holding onto his head so he wouldn’t hit the locker. After we cut, we were like are you ok, are we being too rough? That is one great thing I can say for acting kids, I am glad I get to be around them. I have really not met any mean kids. During the time I was working on The Middle, I usually ate lunch or hung out with Atticus (Brick), he is a really cool dude.
When you’re acting, tell us what experiences you draw on to play the role.
The first thing I do is to try and understand who my character is. Have I met someone who reminds me of this character? How would they act or respond to situations? I have always been taught to break down the script and really figure out what is happening in the story and why the character is like they are. Everyone has a story to tell.
Let’s talk Kidnap. It is in theaters by the time we publish this interview. Can you talk about your role in the film?
I play Tyler the kid that is annoying and is sending his Mom over the edge….he is basically throwing a fit over wanting hash browns and his mother is arguing with him and Carla/Halle, just wants to get him the darn hash browns so he will shut up, lol…add in the crazy grandma and the oblivious dad who is on his phone the whole time and you have a fun morning out at breakfast! I think everyone can relate and it will have people laughing, probably the last funny moment before it gets crazy! I am hoping everyone with join me in my hashtag #butIwantedhashbrowns There should be a meme circulating soon as well, lol. When I auditioned for this part I had to improv and my Mom said, “well I bet you nailed that one”, lol. I have to say it was one of the most fun auditions ever!
I think this is going to be one the best movies of the summer. It has everything….a strong Mom out to save her kid, action, explosions, and suspense. You will not be bored, I promise you that! I hope everyone will go out to the theaters to see this movie. There are so many missing kids in this country and I think Halle honors those parents desperate to have answers. With human trafficking and so many child abductions happening, we really have to be aware of our surroundings and help watch out for other people’s kids too.
You also co-host a web series talk show called Between 2 Phat Kids. Along with your co-host, Wyatt McClure, the 5 minute long shows cover interviews of celebrities and social media stars and includes fun skits, shenanigans, and mayhem. What inspired the show?
Another funny story, I have been a chubby kid since about age 10 and then I met Wyatt when I was about 13 and he is a chubby kid too. So, if you have heard of Between 2 Ferns, we kind of did a play on that made it Between 2 Phat Kids (Positive, Humorous, and Talented), but because we were chubby boys your first thought is “Fat” kids. Wyatt is really funny and you never know what he is going to say….I used to be that way but as I have gotten older, I have become more introverted. So, I let him be the crazy one and I get to look shocked and embarrassed, lol. It was a lot of fun and we got to interview some great people. We even promoted rescuing dogs which is really important to me. If I ever hit it big, I am going to do something to help animals as much as I possibly can. We have 3 rescue dogs and they are the best.
The episodes are still on YouTube, but we have stopped filming due to schedules. Wyatt lives in Ohio and now he is really busy with a new series on CBS…..if you haven’t checked out Between 2 Phat Kids before it is worth watching….there are some great moments.
What has been your favorite skit from the show to date?
My favorite Skit of all time is “Wyatt vs Brice” who will get the girl’s phone number. Of course, Wyatt always wins……because he plays the cute little kid angle that no one can resist!
What types of roles would you like to be casted in?
I used to think I would only be good at comedy and then I realized that I really like drama. I like playing deeper roles now. I have played the bully a lot mainly because of my size, but I have had an opportunity to play other roles like the one in the “Librarians”, where I get my heart broken and in “Lemon Drop”, a new film, that we just wrapped, I play a vulnerable kid just trying to fit in with his brother’s crowd because he thinks they are older and cool. I would love to play the kid next door that becomes the hero or saves someone or an action role, like in “The Walking Dead”. I really love video games so anything dealing with video games would be amazing as well. I just really love to act, so I am open to anything! I am obsessed with “Riverdale”, “Younger” and “Twin Peaks” right now. I would love to be on those shows too.
Thus far, what has been the best experience working in the industry?
I can honestly say I haven’t had a bad experience. I have worked on some great student films, “Mothership” was probably my favorite student film, “Chronicles Simpkins” and “Pieces” were great short films, I got to work with Rolin Jones, Brendan Hughes, and Taylor Kitsch. My television experience has been amazing “The Middle”, “Criminal Minds”, “Crowded”, “Friends with Better Lives”, “The Goldbergs”, “The Librarians”, “The Haunted Hathaways”, and “Jimmy Kimmel”. There were some funny moments when Matthew Gray Gubler came running up to me on the set of “Criminal Minds” and gave me a hug. I felt like I was the celebrity, lol. James Van Der Beek is one of the funniest guys, I have ever met. Let’s just say you had to be there…..lol. Of course, Randall Park, he is on “Fresh off the Boat”, but when I worked with him it was a web series that he and Tim Wilkerson created. I had met Tim while working on “College Humor’s Camp”, with Thomas Middleditch and Tim asked if I would be willing to work on this web project he and some friends were doing. The name of the project was “Baby Mentalist”, Randall’s actual baby and wife were in the production as well and it was hilarious. It was for Channel 101 and I have to say it was one of the most fun projects ever. It is still up on you tube if you get a chance check it out. I was in the final two episodes, 5 and 6. I just got done working on an independent film called “Lemon Drop”. The director, Stephanie Greenquist, hired me for one of my first ever gigs, a web series called “Vainglorious’. I was only 11 at the time. It was great to get to work with her as a teenager and this was a really great role for me. Marcus Henderson, from “Get Out” was in the film and he was a riot. I was shocked at how nice he was. He has this huge film and he is blowing up right now and he is beyond humble. I really feel that people who are that awesome, deserve really good Karma! I hope he wins an Oscar one day!
What do you like to do between productions?
I love Youtube and video games, probably too much…I also love dogs! If there is a stray dog in the road or running through our neighborhood, my Mom and I are on patrol. We must look like crazy people trying to save them. We network on Facebook a lot with rescues and people who support dog rescues. I have 3 rescue dogs of my own, Mimi, Punkie and Swanny. They are fantastic and loyal, they live the life of luxury at our house and they deserve it. I wish everyone would look out for dogs and help them.
Do you have any upcoming projects that we haven’t mentioned?
The Tribes of Palos Verdes with Jennifer Garner and Mika Monroe will be out in the next year or so. I was hired at the beginning of that project so, I got to attend the table read and that was such a great experience. Jennifer Garner gave me a hug! I have a really fun part in that one, so not me in real life but fun. This is a great cast and I am really hoping that there are awards in their future.
Complete this sentence, if I had an opportunity to do anything I want, I would do ___________.
There are so many things, but I would really like to invent something one day that could change people’s lives for the better.
