The re-envisioned Lumière Festival returns November 17-27, 2022, with an expanded footprint across Downtown Vancouver to shine a light on local artists and brighten the city. Under this year’s festival theme, Dream the Future, the elements of light, art, and storytelling weave together to redefine winter as a season of inspiration and connection.

Follow Lumière through Downtown Vancouver, West End, Yaletown, and Gastown, and discover 55+ artists and performers, illuminated Dream beacons, pop-up performances, workshops, and demonstrations, as well as neighborhood parades throughout the course of the festival. Each night, at a new location, festival Dreamers will come together and celebrate with light, music, art, and dance; no two nights will be the same during this free family-friendly celebration.

Kicking off the Lumière Festival is an open-air spectacle at šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square (formerly: Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza) on the evening of Thursday, November 17, 2022, and wrapping up in iconic Morton Park on November 26, 2022, is another outdoor stage showcasing artists, light and performances.

“We are thrilled to be launching Lumière with a new outlook this year and to be bringing the community and artists together after some time away. Art should be enjoyed by all and it is our mission to engage and interact with the new generation of artists and those already in our midst. It’s been a passion of mine throughout my career to bring people together without barriers to enjoy performance and art in new ways and new spaces and I am thrilled to be able to re-envision this wonderful event,” says this year’s new Creative Director, Julie-anne Saroyan.

Featured artists include two-time Western Canadian Music Award winning soul, jazz and R&B singer Krystle Dos Santos, explosive, high-energy dance band Queer As Funk, and Vancouver event band Trilojay. Visual artists include Zachery Cameron Longboy, Lee Rosenbaum, and Jed Mangahis. Dancers from Harbour Dance, Mozaico Flamenco, and many more of Vancouver’s best will be Dreaming along with us at Lumière.

“From a little passion project bringing light, art, and community engagement to downtown Vancouver during the dark winter days, I am heartened to see how Lumière, with the continued support of our sponsors and funders, has grown and evolved into an expanded art festival over the years. The 2022 edition of Lumière is taking on a new direction with an imaginative and innovative artistic vision and inspiration. It is my hope that this renewed artistic energy will bring optimism, possibilities, and beauty to our community – Let’s Dream the Future together,” says Lumière Board Chair, Shelley Hayashi.

The Lumière Festival is made possible through the generous support of partners, including the West End BIA, Downtown BIA, Yaletown BIA, Gastown BIA, The Bentall Centre, Colliers – Arthur Erickson Place, Oxford Properties, as well as cultural partners, including the Roundhouse Community Centre and West End Community Centre.
