Meanwhile, check out Debbie’s interview on the premiere of “The Forgiven.”

Hi, Debbie! Thank you for taking over our Instagram Stories. It was a blast! What inspired you to do the takeover?

I wanted to take the awesome readers of Occhi Magazine behind the scenes of the premiere of The Forgiven. It’s a closed premiere with very limited access to the public so I thought an Instagram take over was the best way to give you all a sneak peek look at the red carpet, the cast and the after party. I had a blast taking over the Instagram stories for the night and I hope all of the Occhi fans enjoyed the behinds the scenes look at the premiere.

Debbie ShermanThe film releases tomorrow and we know you are excited! What has been your best takeaway from playing Linda Coetzee?

The film is set in post-Apartheid South Africa and has a very difficult subject matter. I saw many people crying throughout the film during the premiere. Playing Linda was a complex task and I put my heart and soul into the character. I hope her pain and grief come through on screen.

Debbie ShermanWhat was the best part filming the movie?

I loved getting to work with such talented actors, crew members and an amazing and awe-inspiring director. I learned so much on set and thereafter from everyone involved in the making of The Forgiven. It was a long process from conception to the finished product and in my opinion, it was well worth it.

What was your biggest challenge in playing Linda and how did you overcome it?

Being fully vulnerable to the situations the character was put in during the film was a challenge for me. Roland (the director) was such a skilled teacher and guided me through scenes in such a remarkable way. I had to draw from some emotional places within me in order to convey the grief and heartbreak my character faces throughout the film.

Is there a particular piece you would like us to watch for?

There are many intense scenes that are noteworthy throughout the film. The one that sticks out to me is a court scene toward the end of the film. This piece in The Forgiven will break your heart and fill your spirit with hope all at the same time. It is definitely a stand out scene for me.

Thank you for taking the time to chat with us about the movie.

I hope the audience gets a real sense of the horror that the people of South Africa faced during the Apartheid and after. Everyone who worked on this film really put their heart and soul into making something that would touch those who are not familiar with these crimes and open the eyes of the audience to the horrendous atrocities that took place in South Africa during the Apartheid.

The Forgiven opens in select theaters on March 9th. There will be a theatrical expansion on March 16th and it will be available on VOD and Digital HD on this date as well. I hope everyone gets a chance to see this film! Thank you all for following along The Forgiven journey!
