Ruben Rodriguez’s found footage horror film The Death of April, starring Amy Rutledge, is available on digital platforms from Terror Films.

The film follows Meagan Mullen (Amy Rutledge), as she moves into her East coast home, keeping in touch with her friends and family through a video blog. As her entries (and her life) become more complex and emotional, strange things begin to happen in her apartment and the camera captures all of it. The editing, filming style, and format is refreshing. The credible performances complement Rodriguez’s direction that sublimely captures the mood of a life story documentary and exploration of paranormal activity.

However, the film, based on a true story, lacks adequate pace or sufficient excitement to engage anyone other than die-hard fans of the theme or anyone who can wilfully sit through its 100 minutes. Personally, a great concept, competently delivered but without much-needed dynamism.

Movie Rating: 2.5 stars.
