Have you ever had a dream to perform on stage in front of thousands? Many have had this dream. That’s why shows, like “The Voice,” ” America’s Got Talent,” and “American Idol,” are such famous hits. They helped several fortunate people realize their dream. The beauty about breaking into the entertainment industry is there are so many opportunities to reinvent yourself.

These are my top five picks for music artists who became famous actors. I highly recommend you check out their films.

Will Smith (1985–present)

Willard Carroll Smith, Jr. (Will Smith) is an American actor, producer, rapper, writer, media personality, and MC. His career spans three decades. In 2007, Newsweek called him “the most powerful actor in Hollywood.” He received five Golden Globe nomination and two for the Academy Awards. He’s won four Grammy Awards for his music.

Will is the only actor whose films consecutively grossed over $100 million at the domestic box office, with eleven consecutive films grossing $150 million internationally. Eight of wills films consecutively opened at number one domestically. That is definitely star power. Will has succeeded in music and film.

Currently, Will’s film, “Gemini Man” is scheduled to release on October 11, 2019. It was directed by Ang Lee. Will is also a producer of the film. His film, “Aladdin,” is currently in theaters. As of June 16, 2019, “Aladdin” has grossed over $720 million worldwide. The production budget was $183 million. This is a box office hit! The critics give it high marks.

Ice-T (1982–present)

Tracy Lauren Marrow (Ice-T) is an American musician, rapper, songwriter, actor, record producer, and author. Ice-T started his career as an underground rapper in the 1980s, but he had a desire to break into acting. In 2001, he joined the cast of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” as Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola. It was “Paranoia,” Episode 14. The air date was 02/16/2001.

Ice-T’s current film, “Equal Standard,” is released on an independent label. According to IMDb, “New York City police officers whose lives collide in interweaving stories of race, rank, loss, and betrayal.” Ice-T plays Croft. The film was directed by Brendan Kyle Cochrane and written by Taheim Bryan.

Ice Cube (1984–present)

O’Shea Jackson (Ice Cube) is an American musician, rapper, songwriter, actor, record producer, and author. He was a member of the infamous rap group, NWA, which was wildly popular, selling out club performances across the nation. The music was raw, gritty, and talked about street life. The people were eating it up.

Ice Cube began his acting career with music videos when he performed his songs. He developed a passion for filmmaking. He was soon cast in his breakout role as Doughboy / Darren in “Boyz n the Hood.” According to the IMDb, the story “follows the lives of three young males living in the Crenshaw ghetto of Los Angeles, dissecting questions of race, relationships, violence, and future prospects.”

RZA (1989–present)

Robert Fitzgerald Diggs (RZA) is an American rapper, record producer, musician, actor, filmmaker, and author. He is the original member of the Wu-Tang Clan. He has produced several Wu-Tang Clan’s albums, including many Wu-Tang solo and affiliate projects.

RZA followed his passion for filmmaking by joining the industry in the late 1990s. He scored Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) and Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004). He has written and directed in film and television. RZA made his directorial debut with “The Man with the Iron Fists” in 2012. He acted in such notable films as “American Gangster,” “Brick Mansions,” and the television series “Gang Related” and “Californication.”

RZA can be seen in the new film “The Dead Don’t Die” in theaters now. He plays Dean. According to the IMDb, “the peaceful town of Centerville finds itself battling a zombie horde as the dead start rising from their graves.”

Method Man (1992–present)

Clifford M. Smith, Jr. (Method Man) is an American rapper, record producer, and actor. Method Man is an original member of the Wu-Tang Clan. Additionally, he’s one half of the hip-hop duo Method Man & Redman.

Method Man received the acting bug in 1997 when he was cast in the film “One Eight Seven.” He played Dennis Broadway. He has starred in several high-profile films and television series, such as “Oz” (TV Series) as Carlton ‘Tug’ Daniels, “Method & Red” (TV Series) as himself, “The Wire” (TV Series)
as Melvin ‘Cheese’ Wagstaff, “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” (TV Series)
as Drops, “Blue Bloods” (TV Series) as Mario Hunt, and “The Deuce” (TV Series) as Rodney. You can currently see Method Man as Freddy P (as Cliff ‘Method Man’ Smith) in “Shaft.”
