The season includes Leonardo Suarez-Paz – PIAZZOLLA100 on Thursday, July 24 at 6:30 pm on The Dance Floor at Josie Robertson Plaza
Experience an unforgettable evening of tango with Argentinian violinist and acclaimed artistic director Leonardo Suarez-Paz—hailed as “tango royalty” by All About Jazz UK and a protégé of the legendary Astor Piazzolla. Returning to Lincoln Center, Suarez-Paz brings his award-winning program, PIAZZOLLA100, to the heart of New York City.
As Artistic Director of Nuevo Tango Arts, Suarez-Paz is reshaping the future of tango, blending tradition and innovation to unite audiences through the art form’s powerful rhythms and stories. The evening kicks off with a pre-concert tango dance class led by renowned dancer-choreographer Olga Suarez-Paz (former NYU Steinhardt Dean’s Artist-in-Residence), assisted by members of Nuevo Tango Ballet, and featuring DJ María José Sosa.
Then, embark on a dynamic musical journey tracing tango’s evolution from its golden age in the 1940s and 1950s to the vibrant nuevo tango of today. The performance features masterpieces by Astor Piazzolla, Carlos di Sarli, Aníbal Troilo, Horacio Salgán, Osvaldo Pugliese, and Suarez-Paz himself. An 11-piece ensemble—including GRAMMY-winning soloists and special guests—brings these classics to life in an interactive celebration of tango’s enduring legacy.
