Sarah is a creative, caring and driven young woman. She is a strong, dedicated actress, who spends countless hours training and improving her craft. Sarah is determined to succeed and is constantly striving to reach her dreams.

Sarah can be seen in several independent films, including in her lead role in Emma Rae – a film which illuminates the dark times many teens must navigate in an unforgiving age of social media. Sarah can also be seen in Season 4 of the Netflix Original Series Grace and Frankie, starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

Sarah excels academically, as well as with her extracurricular activities. She maintains a 4.0 GPA in her local high school, while participating in student leadership, lacrosse and charity functions.

Sarah is an Ambassador for The Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, as well as a Youth Ambassador and head of the Denver Branch of The Shoe Crew – a non-profit company which raises funds and collects new shoes for disadvantaged youth.

We had the amazing opportunity to interview such an amazing young lady, advocate, and talented actress. Check out the interview below.

Hello, Sarah! It is a pleasure to speak with you about your recurring role as Young Teddie on the hit Netflix show Grace and Frankie. Thank you for granting the interview. Tell us about your character and role.

I play Young Teddie in flashback scenes from 1957 (episodes 404 and 406).  Teddie is the estranged sister of Frankie, who is played by Lily Tomlin. My character is witty and charming, but she also has a lot of attitude and sass. She is straightforward and bossy, especially towards her sister.  Young Teddie was a really fun role, and I loved the time period in which the scenes were set.

What should the audience expect in the new season?

Season 4 seems a little more serious than past seasons, but the show is still super funny.  The content of season 4 deals with issues such as relationships and aging, but in a humorous, lighthearted way.  I think it’s the best season so far!  Can’t wait until season 5 is released in 2019.

Sarah Kay JollyStarring alongside two iconic actresses is incredible. Have they shared any great advice with you?

Always be friendly. Both of the actresses were so welcoming and funny. They treated me just like any other actor, even though I was one of the few child actors they have had on set.  It was a great experience just being in the same room as them.

You have several films in production, such as Creepy Island, Forget Me Not, The Box, and The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg. That is very exciting. It’s so good to see your career take off. What has been your best experience working in the industry?

I really loved working on AMC’s Preacher because of all the amazing people involved. Seth Rogen directed the episode I was in, and my scene was with Dominic Cooper.  The cast and crew made my first television project an incredible experience!

You love giving back to the community. Please tell our readers about some of your community projects.

I love volunteering and giving back to various organizations in my community, but I especially love working with organizations which support disadvantaged children, such as The Shoe Crew, Together We Rise, and A Precious Child.  I am currently working with my high school cheer team to raise money for St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.  I also volunteer at a retirement home a few days a week.  It’s such a cool experience getting to know the residents and their stories!

You are the Youth Ambassador for The Shoe Crew.

Yes! I am a Youth Ambassador and Junior Advisory Member of The Shoe Crew.  I am also the head of the Colorado branch of The Shoe Crew. The Shoe Crew is a non-profit organization that raises money and provides shoes to disadvantaged youth and their families. I partnered with my high school’s theater department to collect shoes and gift cards from people who attended the school’s Spring musical.  The donated shoes and gift cards are being distributed to children and their families in my community.

You’re also involved with the charity Together We Rise.

Together We Rise is a non-profit organization that improves the lives of children in foster care.  Kids in foster care are often removed from their homes or other placements in a hurry, and they don’t always have time to grab their belongings or a suitcase. I help raise money to provide foster kids with duffle bags, hygiene kits, and comfort items so they don’t have to travel from foster home to foster home with their belongings in a trash bag.

What has been your favorite role, thus far?

Emma Rae has definitely been my favorite role. I love dramatic roles!  Emma Rae has been through a lot, both in her home of origin and in foster care, so getting to play her was extremely emotionally challenging. The role allowed me to push myself further than any other project that I have been involved in.  The entire cast and crew were amazing, and I’m very fortunate to be a part of such an empowering film.

Plus, Emma Rae was accepted into Cannes Film Festival – Short Film Corner and screened at the 2018 Global Women of Color in Film Day at Cannes. I was blessed to be able to attend the festival and be among some of the most talented people in the entertainment industry. Emma Rae is currently making its festival run around the world, which is super exciting.  I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Emma Rae!

Are there any projects you would like to add that we haven’t mentioned?

I am working on a film that is very important to me.  My acting coach, Patrick Sheridan, recently passed away from pancreatic cancer.  Prior to getting sick, we started production on an independent film called Forget Me Not.  Patrick was unable to finish the project before he died, and I really want to honor him by finishing the film and submitting it to film festival so others can see his amazing vision.

Complete this sentence, if I had an opportunity to do anything I want, I would do ___________.

If I had an opportunity to do anything I want, I would do a mission trip to another country!  I love volunteering and meeting new people, so I think that getting to go to another country to help those who are less fortunate would be such an unbelievable experience.
