On Christmas Eve,  innocent couple Lucy ( Samantha Loxley) and Jack ( Neal Ward)  become hosts to a malicious unknown entity that takes its form as an ominous glowing orb. The two make their way to a family of friends they terrorize in an unimaginably violent, disturbing, and supernatural way. These demonic possessions mark the beginning of a worldwide supernatural takeover, and the family of five who fall victim to the first attack are the unfortunate ones to experience the start of this dark epidemic.

Hosts, created to leave a lasting impression on your mind, does just that.  It was officially selected for Frightfest, and Sitges, where it’s been nominated for best film. The film’s creators, Richard Oakes and Adam Leader, are two filmmakers on an upward trajectory.

Oakes is a director and director of photography who began shooting music videos in 2012, working with some of the biggest record companies in the world including Universal, Sony, and EMI. His second feature film as director of photography, 24 Hours in London’ gained him the ‘Best Cinematography’ Award at FlicksFilm Festival in the UK. Host co-director Adam Leader, who also fronts the British hard rock band ‘In Search Of Sun’, is quickly establishing his credentials behind the camera. He has also co-directed music videos such as Airbourne’s ‘Rivalry’ and SHVPES’s ‘Afterlife’ for Universal Music Group.

The film follows in the footsteps of classic successes such as, ‘The Exorcist’, ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ and ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’.  With engaging performances and the open ending, ‘Hosts’ ultimately feels like a backdoor pilot to an ongoing series rather than a standalone film. There are more than enough moments of horror, violence, and gore for any horror fan to be happy with and I’m sure it can be added to any die-hard horror fan’s film collection. One thing is certain- it’s not your average Christmas movie. Hosts is on release across the US and Canada with the rest of the world to follow.
