Julia Biel is an award-winning singer, songwriter, piano player, producer, and guitarist with an arresting and melodious sound that fuses jazz with popular genres in a  resonating style. Her trademark warm and textured voice draws on the spirituality of gospel music, the joie-de-vivre of soul, the sorrow of the blues, and the freedom of jazz. Influenced by the likes of  Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, and Billie Holiday to Björk, Radiohead, Amy Winehouse, and Chet Baker, Julia Biel was described as ‘fiercely gentle’ early on in her career. Biel continues to deliver a reverberating quality, particularly with her acoustic, stripped back piano performances on her latest album ‘Black and White, Vol.1’

Critically acclaimed solo albums ‘Julia Biel’ (2018), ‘Love Letters and Other Missiles’ (2015), and ‘Not Alone’ (2005), as well as MOBO and Urban Music Award nominations have propelled this British artist onto the worldwide stage. Moreover,  her collaborations with the likes of Ben Watt (Everything But the Girl), Stimming, Polar Bear, and Soothsayers have given added momentum to her word-of-mouth success. Her music also meets Bob Dylan’s approval, who hand-picked her to open for his 2019 concert in Schloßplatz, Stuttgart. We had the pleasure to speak with her about her latest release, her career, and what we can look forward to in the future.
