We had the amazing opportunity to chat with Jared about his hot, new single Professional Lovers. Check it out below.

Hi, Jared! Professional Lovers is an awesome song, and we can’t wait to speak with you about it! What inspired the song?

Thank you so much!. I am really really excited for people to hear it and hope they enjoy the record. A few of the specific instances that inspired the song cant be mentioned in detail ha but I think everyone has been in a situation where the physical chemistry between them and another person is so intense you feel as if it couldn’t possibly get better and that you should be the example for the rest of the world.

Do you feel that this song delivers a unique version of love?

I guess that’s open to listeners and what they take from the song since love can mean different things to different people.

What should listeners expect?

Vocally, I hope they can feel the passion in the message and the song and in my voice.  The song is intentionally very dynamic in that the verses are quite soft and breathy and then the choruses are very powerful and sung out.  Sonically, we tried to use some unique sounds to compliment all of that.

What is your songwriting process?

For me, it’s different for every song.  I usually start on the piano and come up with melodies and chord progressions I like.  This song was very collaborative and involved 4 people.  It started with me and Mati Moon on lyrics and melodies. We came up with the Professional Lovers idea in his apartment ( which I really liked)  and we brought in Dirk Pate to help us mold some of the music, melodies, and lyrics.  After that, we brought everything to another incredible producer, Mick Schultz, who added some incredible touches, enhanced everything sonically and ended up mixing the song as well.

Jared Lee A good song can evoke all kinds of emotions. How do you unwind after performing?

I get a crazy high from performing- its one of my favorite things in the world and it does take a second to come back to reality sometimes after you get off the stage.  I usually like to eat, and well, because I usually put that off before the performance. In every city, I go to I do the research to find the best spots possible…I go the extra mile.  Aside from that—I probably end up analyzing/over-analyzing the performance I am trying to unwind from.

After a successful song release, are you ready to start a new adventure?

It takes a lot of work to push out a new song, especially independently, which is what I am doing.  I have more songs ready to go and we are doing some remixes of this but I also write and produce for many other artists and I am constantly on the lookout for new talent to work with.

You continuously hone your gift of singing. What keeps you inspired?

I think it’s a combination of the joy it gives me and the way it can make other people feel.  Music has incredible power- it helped me get through a lot and if I can in any way contribute to that for another person, through singing, that is special and important to me.

Thus far, what has been the best experience working in the industry?

I think it’s the collaborations and meeting so many interesting and creative people. I am fortunate to be able to work with artists and DJ’s and producers in many different genres of music and it’s amazing what someone else can bring out of you that you may never have anticipated. Also getting to meet and work with some of the artists I looked up to growing up has been pretty unreal.

One that I won’t forget that def wasn’t the best but was memorable was singing the national anthem at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles for 40,000 people as they announced my manager’s name as the singer instead of my own ha!

Do you have any upcoming projects that we haven’t mentioned?

I have a bunch of things coming up this year, a couple features with some incredible DJ’s, some songs I have coming out that I have written for other artists and groups and then some more of my own stuff to follow!

Complete this sentence, if I had an opportunity to do anything I want, I would do ___________.

Go do a writing trip in Bora Bora in one of those hotel huts over the turquoise water—incredible catering of course.
