LOFTON SHAW is 17. He is RECURRING ON on the ABC Marvel Series INHUMANS where he plays the younger version of the main character YOUNG BLACK BOLT. He is also known for his SERIES REGULAR role on the Dreamwork’s Television OMG! Series. He plays the role of COLLIN on Nickelodeon’s GAME SHAKERS and KYLE on HENRY DANGER. Some of his other credits include RECURRING roles on BOY BAND BILLY, HOPELESS BROMANTIC, HUMAN BOWLING SHOWDOWN, and AWESOMENESS TV’s CHEERLEADERS.

We had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Lofton. Check it out below.

Hi, Lofton! Thank you for granting the interview. You have a recurring role ABC’s Marvel series InHumans. Tell us about your role and character playing the younger version of Black Bolt. Tell us more.

I still can’t believe I got to play young Black Bolt on Marvel’s InHumans, it was a crazy unreal experience. When Black Bolt’s parents died, at a very young age he became the King of the Inhuman race. His superpower is his voice. When he speaks he has the ability to destroy the planet, even a whisper can do catastrophic damage. Because of this, Black Bolt is almost always silent. The only stretch of time he got to verbally communicate in his life was when he was a child before he went through Terragenesis which is the process of how Inhumans receive their superpowers, he is the strongest superpower of all Inhumans, his voice. This type of role was a new challenge for me, as it forced me to reach deeper to find how to communicate on screen in other ways. Facial expressions, body language, breathing differently… those kinds of things convey more than words sometimes. It was an extremely dramatic role and I really enjoyed becoming this character. Black Bolt has a conflict with his brother and that was fun to play as well.

You’re also a series regular on Dreamwork’s Television in OMG! Series. Tell us more.

DreamworksTV OMG! Is a sketch comedy series where I got to play a variety of different roles… everything from different accents, to outrageous pranks. It was the most fun any kid could possibly dream to have. The word LUCKY doesn’t begin to describe how I feel that I have worked so much with them – a super great team at DreamWorksTV and I made some amazing lifetime friends and memories.

You also play Collin on Nickelodeon’s Game Shakers and Kyle on Henry Danger. Tell us about your roles and characters for both series.

In Game Shakers, I was a guy trying to hit on what I thought was a cute girl but it turned out it was Hudson in disguise!  I wasn’t the only one hitting on him and I got to do some stunt fighting with another guest star. Really fun role to play and the cast and crew were great to work with.

In Henry Danger, I was part of the Bully Squad, so you can imagine how much fun that was, playing someone evil and totally opposite of who I really am. (Well maybe sometimes I’m a little evil. LOL)

If you could play any role you want, what would it be and why?

Well, first of all, the actor I look to for inspiration is Leonardo DiCaprio – literally ANY role he has ever done I would be so honored to be able to do. To get to the level of acting chops to carry the lead in Wolf of Wall Street and Blood Diamond, well… yeah, that would be epic. I also have a secret wish to die a wicked death in a horror movie – well there goes the secret! Ha!

What has been your favorite role to date?

Young Black Bolt in InHumans – getting the chance to be part of the Marvel universe and play a superhero – I think it would be every kid actor’s dream – and I can’t believe I was able to live it! Did I mention it filmed in Hawaii?!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I play video games, #fortnite is my current favorite – I do extreme sports like mountain climbing, I am a second-degree black belt, and I play a sick game of ping pong! Heck, hanging with the homies always delivers – just chilling, whether we go bowling, shooting pool, it’s a good time no matter cuz we love to laugh. Mostly it’s work focused though, acting classes, vocal lessons, and something new…. dance class! And I’m having a blast with that! Who knew?! Haha

What do you love most about the industry?

By far the people, I have met along the way!  Making what I believe will be lifelong friendships, having many amazing experiences I will never forget, yeah that’s been the unexpected part I’ve loved the most. I look forward to more!  Oh yeah… and craft services. 🙂

If you could play a superhero in a movie, which one would you chose to play?

I swear I really wanted to be any Marvel superhero, but since I got to do that (did I really get to do that?!), if I could now choose a specific superhero I would like to play Captain America – why not?!

Do you have any upcoming projects that you would like to share?

Yes! I shot a Lifetime movie that will be coming out before the end of the year, and some other things happening too – you know how it is with these things, you have to sign non-disclosure agreements, etc. and I can’t say just yet but it’s pretty cool!!

Complete this sentence, if I had an opportunity to do anything I want, I would do ___________.

I’d buy the rights to Mission Impossible and take over for Tom Cruise. But that’s the blank I’d fill in for a work opportunity. If I could have another blank to fill in outside of this industry, I would put Music back in schools. From my preschool days through middle school, Music was hands-down the best part of my school day. It’s a shame it’s not available anymore – all kids should grow up with learning all they can about Music.
