British actress Natasha Rose Mills has harnessed her craft by studying the art form at Oxford City College and YPTC Drama Group in the UK.  Her first screen appearance was Capsule (2014). In 2017, she played a lead role in the psychological short film called Last Night directed by Derek Boyes. In 2018, she’s playing a pivotal role in world war ll short film called The Code directed by award-winning director Patrick Ryder.

We are so excited over the opportunity to interview Natasha. Check out the interview below.

Still The CodeHi, Natasha! Thank you for granting the interview. Congratulations on getting the role of Sophie in an awesome WWII movie called The Code.

I had such a wonderful time on set working with Award Winning director Patrick Ryder and cinematographer Richard Oakes. The script was beautifully written by Cheryl Neve, with such talented cast and crew!  The costumes were beautiful and custom made by Cieranne. It was an unforgettable experience, where I played a supporting pivotal role as Tommy’s Sister Sophie in the film.

Sophie is a young girl in her late teens, who is innocent but yet shines through a playful, cheeky personality, which I found interesting and fun to explore. Becoming Sophie ignited the childlike behavior and imagination within me. When Patrick Ryder told me about The Code, I was intrigued by the story and its meaning in relation to the difficult times during World War ll. I was honored to have the opportunity to work with Patrick on this project. I was already an admirer of his work and vision of what he’s achieved over the years. I was so grateful to be cast as Sophie for The Code. I hope to collaborate with him again in the near future.

The film is directed by award-winning director Patrick Ryder. The Code is set before the events in Dunkirk. This sounds like a powerful film.

I thought it was a very impactive story set in a time when life was a challenge everyone faced with adversity.  It helped to change social attitudes in Britain. Our society has changed dramatically since these times, as we see it today in our world as it evolved. The Code models a similar premise to world war ll, it really demonstrates the lengths people would go to keep their loved ones safe from harm. The Code embodies these elements which are loosely based on real events.

What inspired you to play Sophie?

I felt inspired by the project itself and intrigued by Sophie’s personality trait. Becoming Sophie ignited the childlike behavior to which gave me the chance to explore her imagination.

What can the audience expect?

Love, loss, thought-provoking experiences. It will implore a feeling of sorrow accompanied by elements of warmth and hope, with sincerity shown in strong purposeful characters with meaning.

In similar relation to incredible films with powerful intention Dunkirk, Christopher Nolan and Saving Private Steven Spielberg. It has bravery, hope, and sensory experience that opens up realms of events occurred during this era.

Will this be your first historical film?

Yes, that’s correct. It’s my first historical film. I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to bring the role of Sophie to life, and hopefully the first of many.

Thus far, what has been the best experience working in the industry?

The best experience has been to have worked with such talented cast and crew on The Code and short psychological film Last Night directed by the talented Derek Boyes. On Last Night, I played a lead character as Sarah. This was a guerilla project, filmed on an iPhone 6, during midnight and the early hours of the morning. We all worked extremely hard to achieve the finished result. We were surrounded by the wilderness, which gave us all the chance to interact with one another and allowed the character’s emotion to heighten. I really enjoyed working on this project, it was greatly driven by the wonderful cast. The film will be released later this year.

Do you have any upcoming projects that we haven’t mentioned?

This year I am working on my first screenplay, Colourblind. The film is directed by Award Winning directors The Bashford Twins. It’s a charity film to raise awareness for victims of domestic violence. It follows a girl in her early 20’s in everyday life, but we progressively see a change that displays stages of domestic abuse from her partner. The film is a depiction relative to the experiences of that nature.

Another project coming up is an exciting feature film, backed by a great cast and crew. I can’t say too much at this moment.

Complete this sentence, if I had an opportunity to do anything I want, I would do ___________.

I would travel, it would be a dream of mine to visit various cultural, historical places in the world like the Taj Mahal and Egypt to see the temples and valleys of the Kings tombs.

I wrote many fictional stories as a young child discovering who they are. I have always had a wild imagination projecting my vision onto a page. It would be another ambition of mine to write a feature film and a book relating to the society we live in today.

Editor’s Note: Natasha has a wonderful voice. Check out her song Stay.
