Performer, composer, and presenter Jody Redhage Ferber has built a career around a simple but radical idea: that music can change the way we listen — not only to sound, but to the world around us. Her mission is to create enchanting performance experiences that awaken a deeper awareness of the natural connections between performers, listeners, and the environment, inviting audiences to hear in a new way and, in turn, experience nature differently.
.
A passionate proponent of creative live music, Redhage Ferber blurs genre lines with ease, bridging the sensitivity and detail of chamber music with the spontaneous, in-the-moment electricity of jazz improvisation. Over the past 18 years as a professional cellist, composer, vocalist, recording artist, educator, and concert presenter, she has cultivated a far-reaching creative community — collaborating with an inspiring network of musicians, visual artists, venues, audiences, and students.
.
Her performance history is as expansive as her musical language. Redhage Ferber has appeared on five continents, with credits spanning iconic stages including Carnegie Hall (Stern and Weill Halls), Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater and Appel Room, Radio City Music Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, Chicago Symphony Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Barbican and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, and the Hollywood Bowl. She has also brought her artistry to major festival audiences at Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, as well as some of the world’s most celebrated jazz gatherings — including Montreux, North Sea, San Francisco, Cape Town, Portland, and Montreal Jazz Festivals — alongside storied rooms like the Village Vanguard and Tokyo’s Blue Note.
.
Now, the cellist and composer is stepping forward with her first album as a leader in more than a decade. Air Songs is both a return and a new chapter — a project that feels intentionally curated, intimate in its instrumentation, and expansive in its emotional reach. The album features Camila Meza on guitar and vocals, Sara Caswell on violin, and Rogerio Boccato on percussion.
.
Redhage Ferber recently shared that she went through a phase of intense listening to recordings featuring her collaborators — a deep-dive that shaped the spirit of the record. On Air Songs, she explores a distinctive sonic niche, pairing the electric edge of Meza’s guitar with the acoustic warmth and texture of Caswell’s violin and hardanger fiddle, alongside Redhage Ferber’s own cello. Anchoring and colouring the sound is Boccato’s earthy, imaginative percussion set-up, with the percussionist contributing to three tracks.
The result is music that feels alive — crafted with precision, yet open enough to let the air in. In Redhage Ferber’s hands, listening becomes more than a passive act; it becomes a practice, a presence, and a way back into connection.
