The Southwest-based indie-rock four-piece The Bedside Morale are to release their debut single ‘Safeword’ on September 15th 2023. The band, made up of T, Charlie, Tim, and Kynan, have been making music together since 2014. What was immediately apparent was that they’d found something special together, and the pursuit of this close band began in earnest.

Over the years different forms of musical and self-expression were explored. The group bonded over their shared love of all kinds of music and were unafraid to bring new elements into their own writing. It’s been a storied journey since those early days but the group developed into a very close-knit unit, coming to realize exactly who they were and how they fit together. Close to a decade of life experiences and musical adventures has resulted in The Bedside Morale; sincere rock music without limits. Their upcoming debut single Safeword, produced and mixed at Stage 2 Studios with Josh Gallop (Mother Vulture, Krooked Tongue, Phoxjaw), explores the idea of escapism through nostalgia.

“It reflects on the comfort but also the denial that people find hiding behind the rose-tinted lens of their youth. We had so much fun putting this song together with our producer Josh Gallop and there are some really special moments which came out of the spontaneity of those sessions. This marks the first single for us as a band and we feel it showcases our intention and solidifies our style. Everyone should have a Safeword, here is ours,” explains vocalist and lyricist Tim Kazer.

Alongside the single, the band worked with GLK Media’s Kieran Gallop on a cinematic, reservoir dogs-esque music video – violence content warning to boot!  Discussing the inspirations behind the video, Kazer adds “Like most of my jokes, the fake blood ended up being a joke on myself and only myself. I got so swept up in making something that looked real that I forgot along the way that my mouth was the victim. The result was the most disgusting and disgusted I have been in my life. But it has come out looking great. Maybe too great at times. There’s some truly brutal imagery in there. But then its offset by a group of people having a great day. I think that’s what we wanted to represent. Humor in a horrible place. Kieran Gallop has done such an incredible job of creating exactly that, moments that make you smile and moments that make you wince. Anyway, it’s great, the guys all gave stellar performances and I hope everyone dances away in their cars.”

Safeword is due for release September 15th and will be available on all major streaming platforms.
