Singer Lina shines with a voice that belies her years on her new single Off Guard. Born Angelina Mapes, the New York-born singer was raised in Texas, since the age of 2. The up and coming singer, songwriter and pianist, credits Amy Winehouse, Lana Del Ray, and Billy Joel as her inspirations. She began writing at the age of 13, a year after she began playing the piano. Cutting her teeth in venues across the city of Dallas, Lina developed her own unique soulful, enchanting style.

Her voice compliments the theme of her new single. Off Guard tackles suicide, a growing issue of her generation. “Off Guard is about what it felt like to be caught off guard when someone I really loved and counted on committed suicide,” Lina says. Despite many of her peers writing about the superficialities in life, Lina has chosen to dig much deeper into her songwriting. “Honestly, I hardly remember writing the lyrics, I just knew I needed to get them out and express myself. I feel this song relates to anyone who has lost someone suddenly. This is especially true In light of the climate of the world right now, there are many of us being caught off guard!” Lina hopes that her music spreads love and happiness throughout the entire world and that everyone knows that they are loved and someone is understanding of them. As more young songwriters choose to tackle important issues with their lyrics, the future is looking brighter.
