Midnight Genius is an Alternative R&B duo based in Vancouver. The artists are Jonathan Maniraho, who is from the Greater Toronto Area, and Kathryn Masters, who was born and raised on the East Coast. The pair met at the Toronto Film School in 2013 and have been inseparable ever since.
After both graduating from TFS, Jonathan and Kathryn moved to Los Angeles to further pursue their dreams in the entertainment industry. However, it was while living in LA that the duo realized they could equally pursue their artistic journey in Vancouver, where they currently reside since November 2016.
What started out like a fun time freestyling on a garageband microphone, transformed into a life career following their true lifelong passion and ultimate dream together. Over a 5 year span, Midnight Genius has released 3 EP’S and 19 singles. Their most popular song on Spotify is Honest with over 240 thousand streams, followed by All I Need with over 100 thousand streams. The duo has performed for “RAW: natural born artists“, the artists showcase in Vancouver and their unique sound and songs have caught the attention of radio stations like Chill Rose Radio 101.7 fm in Vancouver, B-Side Radio CJRU 1280 and CFRU 93.3 FM in Toronto, and Cimer! Radio in Paris. With over half a million streams on Spotify alone, the duo has also been featured on numerous Spotify curated playlists such as “Just Vibing,” “Fresh Finds” and “Mood Ring.”
The new single, High Alert is about the different styles of communication, especially when it comes to conflict or disagreements. The duo believes honesty and transparency should be at the center of any relationship and you shouldn’t have to feel like you’re continuously walking on eggshells or moving on ‘high alert’ out of fear of hurting each other’s feelings.
