Based on a graphic novel by writer-director Kevin Grevioux, King of Killers follows former agency hitman Marcus Garan as he attempts to unravel the mystery behind a very personal and tragic incident. When offered a $10 million contract to eliminate the world’s greatest assassin, Marcus travels to Tokyo to meet the client but discovers an assembly of killers have also been invited. Now he and the others must confront this deadly, mythical assassin.

The action film genre is saturated so everyone wants to see a good movie. Some productions are quality-paced and well-choreographed, with edge-of-your-seat excitement and intrigue. The Raid comes to mind.  Equally, some are produced with a fraction of the budget of the big franchises such as Bond, Mission: Impossible, and Bourne.  One can also be lured into the false belief that a noteworthy cast, including Alain Moussi and Stephen Dorff, will usher in the delivery of a great movie. Unfortunately, this film misses the mark.  Perhaps the writing was on the cards with casting Frank Grillo. Aside from his supporting role in Winter Soldier, he appears to drift from one mediocre film to another.

Appearing fashioned with a twist on films such as Kickboxer and Mortal Komabt franchises, this is by no means the worst action movie you’ll see but it certainly isn’t the best. Putting aside a questionable plot, it remains a bearable 90 minutes of brain-free, popcorning eating time out from the worries of the real world.
