Short Film, Success, Gender Flips the #METOO Movement Written and directed by newcomer Nigerian filmmaker, Oboatarhe Ebiye Ikuku, Success tackles major topics of power, sexual harassment, and integrity. Within the guise of a beautiful and musical love story, Ikuku takes the stand that persecution has less to do with gender and everything to do with power.
Ben Furney (Lake Eerie, Funny Man) steals the screen as Sebastian an insecure yet endearing singer/songwriter who believes he’s finally reached his big break by scoring a meeting with a major talent agent. “Sadly, in this day and age, most artists are faced with a moment when they are asked to compromise their values and Sebastian is no exception” Ikuku states, “however, selling one’s soul for money or fame should never be an option.” Sebastian navigates his dreams, his love, and the cost of opportunities,
alongside stellar cast mates Julia Parker (Go On, Another Time) and Katie Lynn Stoddard (Gal Pals, Shut up and Run).
Success is making the rounds on the festival circuit, winning an award for “Best Supporting Actress” at the Creation International Film Festival (2018), placing as a finalist in AltFF (2017), a semi-finalist in Los Angeles Cinefest (2018) and selected for Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema (2018). Oboatarhe Ebiye Ikuku is a graduate of New York Film Academy with a Masters of Fine Arts and is currently creating an autobiographical Dramedy Television Series.
