Samantha Lindo is a Bristol-based soul, UK jazz and trip-hop artist described by the Bristol Post as having ‘a voice that is hauntingly flawless’.  Her debut single ‘Turn & Leave’ featured on the BBC Sounds Hot List November 2019, curated by BBC Introducing and BBC 6 Music. Following her debut single’s success, we’re excited to feature her new track entitled’ Underside.’

The track was released in February and a live version was released last week. ‘Underside’, crafted from personal experience, celebrates the value of speaking from ‘the underside’- the place of suffering that we would sometimes prefer to conceal and mask. Speaking of the writing process, Samantha Lindo explains: “The track was written for my friend who was struggling. I wanted to welcome and celebrate her honesty and vulnerability as it is those things that both deepen relationships and also start to heal the hurt and the video, through a simple performance, maps the journey out of this shadowy isolation”.

To celebrate their shared process of recovery and friendship, Samantha and her friend Rebecca Jackson (a now practicing counselor, psychotherapy masters student, and budding author) will be producing an artists Q&A and podcast, supported by Time to Change, a national campaign led by UK charities Mind and Rethink, which are committed to ending mental health stigmatization.

The track is produced by Chris Gould and Bristol’s DJ Bunjy, founder of Laid Blak. DJ Bunjy serves as Bristol’s international ambassador for music and the arts, having performed alongside John Legend, Easy Allstars, Julian Marley, and Ed Sheeran. Underside’s recipe is a delicious mix of influences which represent Samantha’s rich musical background. Alongside launches at Rough Trade Bristol and the Servant Jazz Quarters in London, Samantha will also be talking about her creative process at the Listening Room at the internationally renowned St George’s in Bristol in March, as well as a string of exclusive Sofar sounds shows before she announces a UK tour later in the year.

Underside Launch London  is at  Servant Jazz Quarters, N16 8JN  on Thursday, April 2nd, 8 pm Ticket Link
