Tomás Doncker has never been the type to sit neatly inside one scene, one sound, or one era. NYC-born and now UK-based, the alternative R&B producer, singer-songwriter, and indie label CEO moves like a lifelong conduit between music, art, and culture—always pulling new energy from the underground and pushing it forward with purpose. Today, he returns with a new single, “¡2 BEAUCOUP!”, released via his own imprint, True Groove Records.
.
To understand Doncker’s trajectory is to trace a line through some of New York’s most fearless musical movements. In the early 1980s, he emerged as part of the city’s No Wave and Punk Funk explosion, performing with boundary-breaking groups The Contortions and Defunkt—bands that didn’t just bend genres, but challenged the very idea of them. That same spirit has followed him ever since, carrying him through international touring, recording, and songwriting collaborations with an extraordinary list of artists: Bootsy Collins, Meshell Ndegeocello, Ivan Neville, The Specials, and the legendary Patti Smith, among others. Whether fronting his own band, The True Groove All-Stars, or stepping into collaborative spaces,

Doncker’s work consistently lands as cross-genre innovation with soul at the centre.
It’s a legacy that hasn’t gone unnoticed. Over the years, his releases have drawn praise from BBC, CNN, HuffPost, MOJO, SPIN, BrooklynVegan, NPR’s All Songs Considered, Guitar World, Wonderland, All About Jazz, Paste, and Rolling Stone. More recently, he’s also taken the spotlight as a cover artist for both Blues Matters and Blues & Soul Magazine—a fitting nod to an artist whose catalogue speaks fluently across blues, funk, rock, R&B, and beyond.
.
With “¡2 BEAUCOUP!”, Doncker continues that tradition of fearless creation, backed by a team as respected as the story behind the track. The single was produced alongside James Dellatacoma—known for work with Bill Laswell and Herbie Hancock—and mastered by Michael Fossenkemper, whose credits include Paul Weller, LL Cool J, and Miles Davis. The result is a release that feels both technically sharp and emotionally charged: the kind of song built for movement, message, and late-night reflection.
.
But the heartbeat of “¡2 BEAUCOUP!” begins not in the studio—rather, in a moment of live, communal electricity. Doncker recalls recently performing with Patti Smith at the L’Olympia Theatre in Paris, an experience that reignited his belief in music as a force that can gather people, amplify truth, and push back against injustice.
“I had just performed with Patti Smith at The L’Olympia Theatre in Paris—where I witnessed first hand the magic of music to create community, and unify voices towards a common goal,” Doncker shares. “’People Have The Power’ in full effect. She urged the audience to ‘Use Your Voice!’, to never stop speaking out against injustice around the world. Needless to say I was inspired—so I went looking for ‘2 verses and a vibe’… what came out was ¡2 BEAUCOUP!’”
.
As Tomás Doncker continues to bridge continents and genres, “¡2 BEAUCOUP!” stands as both celebration and provocation—music that moves the body, but doesn’t let the mind stay still.
