The Whistler Film Festival (WFF) has unveiled its 2022 lineup and amongst the select world premieres is Vancouver Director/Producer Jason James’ latest dramatic feature film EXILE. The thriller, shot in Powell River, BC, includes a haunting performance from Adam Beach (Power of the Dog, Suicide Squad) as Ted Evans, a father struggling with his past, alongside stellar performances from Camille Sullivan (Hunter Hunter, Big Sky), Gary Chalk (The Killing) and Marshall Williams (The Ice Road). The film will debut with many of the cast and crew present on December 1st and 2nd, 2022 in Whistler, BC.
In EXILE, Ted Evans (Adam Beach) receives a threat from the man whose family he killed in a DUI. In order to protect his family when he is released from prison, Ted exiles himself and commits to a reclusive life; separating himself from the people he loves. His wife, Sara (Camille Sullivan), believes the threat is a manifestation of her husband’s profound guilt. Determined to rebuild their family, Sara tracks down Ted to confront him, but she has no idea who he’s become or how real the threat may be.
“EXILE is a film about a man who wants to disappear from the rest of society… set against the rugged coastline of the Pacific Northwest, the film is perfectly suited for its World Premiere at the 2022 Whistler Film Festival,” says James.
Selected from more than 2,000 submissions, James and the film are up for awards at the festival including the Borsos Competition sponsored by the Directors Guild of Canada. James’ recent credits include his feature dramedy Entanglement, starring Thomas Middleditch and Jess Weixler and he also Directed/Produced the indie comedy That Burning Feeling (starring John Cho, Tyler Labine, Emily Hampshire, and Paulo Costanzo).
Produced by Resonance Films, Goodbye Productions, and Service Street Pictures, EXILE is Written by Michael Beaton and Directed by Jason James (Entanglement), Produced by Amber Ripley (ASH) and Sammie Astaneh (1922) and Executive Produced by Ellie Fox (A Million Little Things), Mark Williams (Ozark), Tai Duncan (Mona Lisa Smile), Jhod Cardinal (Kim’s Convenience), Adam Beach and Camille Sullivan.
