Aaliyah Cinello is a fast-rising actor and singer from Toronto, Canada. She began her career as a model at just three months old appearing in ad campaigns for major brands including The Hudson’s Bay Company, Toys “R” Us, and OshKosh B’gosh. She also landed the cover of major national magazines including Today’s Parent and Toronto Life. Throughout that time, Aaliyah quickly developed a natural ability and comfort in front of the camera, and with hard work, determination and perseverance, she effortlessly transitioned from modeling to quickly demonstrating her versatility and talent for Film and TV.

Thank you for agreeing to catch up with Occhi Magazine. Your working career started very early when you started modeling at the age of three months. Please tell us more about how this came about.

My mom used to model when she was younger and one day, she reconnected with an old agent from Ford Modelling that she had worked with. While they were catching up, the agent wanted to see a picture of me, once he did, he sent back a contract to sign me.

Your first big break came in 2014 after landing a role in the remake of the iconic superhero film RoboCop. What was that experience like and what impact did it have on your career?

It was awesome being on such a huge project and not only did I love being on set, but It showed me that I could do this even at a young age. It definitely boosted my confidence and drive where I wanted more.

You’ve amassed a significant body of work in major film and television productions including Heroes Reborn, Saving Hope, 12 Monkeys, Make It Pop, Kim’s Convenience, and According to Kids. Tell us about your experiences working in the industry, what you love and what you’d change.

I could tell that for the most part, I’ve had truly amazing experiences and have met some wonderful people both in front of and behind the camera. They have all made it so much fun and that’s what I love about the industry. If I could change something it would have to be all the memorizing my lines. Lol

Who are your biggest industry influences, and why?

My Mom, for one. She’s also an actor and she really guided me and my career making sure that I was always safe on set. Two, she has always believed in me and makes sure that I’m prepared for every role I go for.

What is your strongest asset as an artist?

I’m going to say my professionalism. I come in knowing my lines and ready to go. Also, the experience I bring to the table. I’ve learned a lot over the years, and it’s really helped me to prepare for roles.

Please tell us more about your latest project, ‘Circuit Breakers’ and what audiences can expect.

Circuit Breakers deals with mature themes where the plot is moved forward through child and teen actors. The show tackles children’s issues through a sci-fi lens.  The audience can definitely expect a well-written and fast-paced storyline that will keep them glued to the TV.

What do you look for in a role, or are you open to exploring different opportunities?

I really do gravitate to roles that push me and my acting abilities. I love roles that allow me to open up and be more vulnerable and as I’m getting older, I am transitioning out of what I’ll call kid roles.

What other projects are you currently working on?

I’m just finishing up a Netflix show which is due out in early 2023 and another big project which will wrap up in early 2023. Stay tuned for more!
