Irreversible Entanglements is a liberation-oriented free jazz collective featuring saxophonist Keir Neuringer, poet Camae Ayewa (a.k.a. Moor Mother) bassist Luke Stewart, trumpeter Aquiles Navarro, and drummer Tcheser Holmes. The collective’s origins stem from a 2015 performance at a Musicians Against Police Brutality event staged after the slaying of Akai Gurley by the NYPD.
Signed to the record label Impulse!, the band has announced the September 8th release of its new album ‘Protect Your Light’. Additionally, they share the first single off the record, “Free Love.” The band will celebrate the release of Protect Your Light with a performance at Hudson’s Basilica SoundScape Presents festival on September 9th. Featuring pianist Janice A. Lowe, cellist Lester St. Louis, and vocalist Sovei, the project was primarily recorded over three days in January 2023 at the historic Rudy Van Gelder Studios in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Protect Your Light is regarded as the band’s most accomplished work to date, surpassing the three already-classic records they cut for Chicago’s International Anthem.
